Replatforming and migrations

Replatforming and migration for your e-commerce

Changing e-commerce platform is a chance to get a faster, safer and easier-to-manage store. The risk is losing Google rankings, data or sales during the move. I plan and carry out the migration to avoid that, to Magento 2, Adobe Commerce, Mage-OS, WooCommerce, PrestaShop or Shopify.

What replatforming is

Replatforming means moving your online store to a new platform while keeping products, customers, orders and search engine rankings. It is not just a redesign: the system that runs the store changes.

A well-run migration is barely noticeable to customers: product addresses stay reachable, data arrives complete, and sales stop for no longer than necessary.

When it makes sense to migrate

  • Your current platform is no longer updated or supported, like Magento 1, whose official support ended in 2020.
  • The store is slow, expensive to maintain or hard to change.
  • Needs have changed: more products, new markets, B2B sales, back-office integrations.
  • You want to move from one platform to another, for example from WooCommerce or PrestaShop to Shopify or Magento, or adopt Mage-OS.
  • Your site runs an old Magento 2 version and you want it secure again.

The risks I manage

Losing Google rankings

I prepare the map of old and new addresses and the redirects, and carry over titles and descriptions, so the pages that bring traffic today keep doing so.

Lost or incomplete data

Products, categories, customers and orders are transferred and spot-checked. Some data, such as customer passwords, may need an extra step: I clarify this upfront.

Sales stopping during the move

The new store is built and tested in parallel. Go-live is planned for a low-traffic window to keep any interruption to a minimum.

Integrations that stop working

I check the connection to your back-office system, shipping, payments and marketplaces, and rebuild whatever is not compatible with the new platform.

What a migration includes

  • Analysis of the current store and choice of the new platform
  • Transfer of products, categories, customers and orders
  • Redirect map to preserve SEO
  • New theme or adaptation of the existing design
  • Reconnecting back-office, payment and shipping systems
  • Testing before launch and checks after go-live
  • Support in the following weeks

Which platform to move to

It depends on catalog size, budget and the features you need. Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce suit large catalogs and complex projects; Mage-OS is a free community distribution of Magento; Shopify reduces technical upkeep; WooCommerce is an affordable choice for simpler WordPress-based stores; PrestaShop is an open-source platform widely used in Europe, suited to small and mid-sized stores.

I do not push a platform in advance: we choose together after looking at how you work today, and the options include staying on your current platform if updating it is enough.

How I work

  1. Analysis

I review the current store: data, features, integrations and the pages that bring traffic.

  2. Migration plan

We choose the platform, timeline and approach together, and I prepare the redirect map.

  3. Build and transfer

I build the new store and transfer the data, with repeated trial runs on a copy.

  4. Testing and go-live

Checks on orders, payments and key pages, then launch in a quiet window.

  5. Post-launch monitoring

I watch for errors, missing addresses and traffic trends, and fix what is needed right away.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose Google rankings after the migration?

I cannot guarantee it, since it also depends on external factors, but with correct redirects and preserved content the risk is greatly reduced. Checking this before and after launch is part of the job.

How long does a migration take?

It depends on catalog size, integrations and customizations: from a few weeks to a few months. After the analysis I give you a concrete estimate.

Does the store stop during the move?

The old store stays live while I build the new one. Downtime is limited to the switch itself, which I schedule in a low-traffic window.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the project. I work per project, with a quote defined together, or hourly starting at €60/hour, with discounts for large projects and for long-term collaborations or ongoing support. Quotes are always free and with no obligation.
